A Unique Shabbat Reception
The Technion Honors Evacuees from the North and South
This past Friday, a special Shabbat reception took place at the Technion to celebrate the arrival of our new and distinguished guests; evacuees from the northern and southern regions of Israel. Since the onset of the war, the Technion has opened its doors to these displaced residents, and we are currently hosting approximately 60 individuals on campus.
Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan, accompanied by his wife Yael, attended the event and shared, “While we are saddened by the circumstances that have brought you here, we are indeed grateful for the opportunity to extend our hospitality and support. The Technion’s commitment to the well-being of its extended community is as steadfast as that of the nation at large. We have adopted two brigades and several reserve units, offering them support in the form of food, equipment, and technical assistance. We understand the gravity of the challenges you are facing and pledge to do all within our power to ease your burdens.”
The hospitality arrangements at the Forschheimer Guest House are meticulously coordinated by Lauren Geffen-Binia, who oversees the organization of academic staff. Additionally, the dormitory accommodations are managed by Limor Abbas-Or, the coordinator of the “Leading on Campus” program. The Shabbat reception was thoughtfully initiated and orchestrated by Meital Nissim of the Public Relations and Resource Development Division and Ortal Frenkel from the Office of the Dean of Students. They also enlisted two musicians who delighted guests with live music.
